NorthSeaFestival is
part of NorthSeaEastWest, a
major project that challenges artists from all fields to reflect
maritime heritage through their visions and sensitivity. In doing
so, ports will remain alive and keep their dynamic spirit, letting
people experience their spatial qualities and provide opportunities
for interaction. Maritime heritage will be brought back into society
at a times when ports are becoming redundant and housing developments
seem to be the only future for left over spaces.
We aim to give ports a new
opportunity to survive
as they once were with more appropriate programmes in contrast to
static designs that will lead to a loss of identity.
This project is run by the North Sea Programme and
funded by Interreg North Sea Region. It is a pioneer project because
of its broad approach and the initiatives which take place on some
of the ports around the North Sea rim. If the project is a success
it will be implemented across other North Sea ports.
